MY LATEST WONDERFUL DISCOVERY: HALOTHERAPY

Have you heard of “halotheraphy” yet?

Apparently the health conscious all over the country are embracing the latest trend in pampering: salt spas. Spa lovers relax in rooms made of salt, breathing in misty salty vapors in hopes to clear their lungs and purifying their skin. Halotherapy, after the Greek word Halo that means salt, is a natural way to treat skin and respiratory symptoms.

Fine particles of dry salt aerosol are blown into the salt rooms where visitors only need to sit and relax. The salt particles in the air, floor and on the walls make it a natural antibacterial environment.

What are the benefits of salt therapy?

  • Clears pollen, pollutants, toxins and airways

  • Reduces bronchial inflammation

  • Relieves skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis

  • Improves lung function

  • Strengthens the immune system against cold, flu and lung irritants

  • Cleans nasal cavities and sinuses

  • Helps treat allergies and asthma

  • Helps releasing stress

Although a bit skeptical, I decided to try it out because I was intrigued by it and with the hope to relax and relieve some stress. Well…I had a great experience! The room is super relaxing, totally quiet, with individual stations equipped with lounge chairs, individual stereo system, with a choice of relaxing music and breathing exercises, dimmed lights and blankets. I was able to meditate and even take a little power napJ! The only down fall is if someone who snores is in the same session, which happened to me once. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend it.

For my local Florida friends I recommend The Salt Suite (http://www.thesaltsuite.com/locations), for the rest of you just do a google search to find a spa close to you.

Happy breathingJ!!
