5 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SUNSCREEN


Summer is around the corner and, if you haven’t started using sunscreen yet, you will soonJ… Here are some SOInteresting facts to keep in mind:

#1: KEEP IT IN THE DARK - Store it in a room away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. Exposure to high heat can deactivate sunscreen’s ingredients;

#2: APPLY 15/30 MIN BEFORE EXPOSURE -That’s how long it takes UV filters to absorb into skin, unless it contains either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, in which case it starts to work as soon as you put it on;

#3: DON’T WORRY TOOMUCH ABOUT THE NUMBER - SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB; SPF 50 blocks about 98% of UVB… not much of a difference! For optimal protection don’t go below SPF 30 and reapply every two hours or after you have been sweating or swimming;

#4: APPLY A GOOD AMOUNT - If you use a cream, use ¼ teaspoon of it on your face and about 2 tablespoons for the rest of your body. If you use a spray, spritz each body part for five seconds;

#5: NO SUNSCREEN IS COMPLETELY WATERPROOF – “Water-resistant” sunscreen protects you for up to 40 min. in the water; “very water-resistant” can last up to 80 minutes. So don’t forget to re-apply!
